In the diocese of Kaande, I’ve come to see how the shortage of trained lay leaders leaves entire communities without guidance — many parishioners have only a limited understanding of the sacraments, or of what the Church truly is.
Victor, 50, is already an active and committed parishioner, but he came to us wanting more: to be formed as a leader so that he, in turn, could help others in his community. He’s now part of a leadership formation program grounded in Catholic teaching, learning what he’ll one day pass on.
What moves me about Victor is that his motivation was never personal advancement — it was simply the wish to become someone others could lean on. We hope that, within a year, he’ll be one of the first to help train new leaders in Kaande, and that his community will count on more people like him.
